The GHWB crew didn't want Dan Quayle after all

According to this little gem at Washington Wire, President Bush’s re-election team wanted Vice President Dan Quayle out.  As in flushed.

Bush Family enforcer James Baker writes in a new book that “the biggest favor [Quayle] could have done for the president — and the country, in my opinion — would have been to graciously take himself off the ticket.”  Perhaps they should have had Cheney take young Dan out for a little bird huntin’ and brewskies.

At any rate, Bush 41 brushed off the criticism and kept his hapless veep, losing in the November general election.  The rest, as they say, is Clinton’s fault.
