Calling Beetlejuice: If Dems dump Menendez in NJ, who might run?

Oh, they’re all saying “perish the thought.”  But rest assured, there’s plenty of scuttlebutt about dropping struggling incumbent Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) in favor of a stronger candidate to take on Republican Tom Kean, Jr. in a hot U.S. Senate race.

Kean’s riding on the coattails of his popular father and clearly has Dems worried that Menendez won’t hack it come November.  A tad of prejudice about Menendez’ Cuban roots might be in play too, unfortunately.  Polls have Kean slightly ahead, and that lead will likely grow as Menendez now endures a federal criminal investigation.  The embattled incumbent is denouncing the ethics charges, claiming that this particular Cuban Embargo is politically motivated.  Regardless, sharks have begun to circle… Wonkette hears that Rep. Rob Andrews (D-NJ) is hot for the shot.

Might I suggest a few alternative candidates from Jersey?  Celebrities, both A-list and Wack Pack, abound: Beetlejuice, Fred Schneider, Joe Pesci, Ice-T, Janeane Garofalo.  Bruce Springsteen, duh…  Jon Stewart, a cakewalk!  Or perhaps… let’s get crazy here… the newly liberated Whitney Houston?
