Claim: US government scientists were behind 2001 anthrax attacks; FBI covered it up

A U. of Illinois law professor named Dr. Francis Boyle makes the startling claim to the Middle East Times, which is the Egyptian equivalent of The Washington Times, as both are owned by the Rev. Sun-Myung Moon. So keep that in mind.

Boyle is an interesting fellow. According to his Wikipedia entry and other sources, he:
  • Has been a member of the board of Amnesty International USA, which he later left and then threatened to sue;
  • Accused Amnesty of being infiltrated by US and British agents;
  • Was a legal advisor to the PLO;
  • Currently is attorney of record for a Chechen independence group;
  • Is chummy with Muammar Qaddafi;
  • Has received death threats from Serbian terrorists;
  • Is a strong supporter of Hawai'ian independence;
  • Drafted the 1989 US Biological Weapons Convention, which Congress enacted;
  • Has called for the impeachment of President Bush;
  • Won a bet in a Edinburgh pub by eating 10 lbs. of haggis in an hour.
Okay, so I made the last one up. But to this fascinating list, we can now add that Boyle has accused the US government of having orchestrated, and then covered up, the unsolved anthrax attacks that killed five people and had everybody panicking about whether their junk mail was contaminated with death spores. From the article by Sherwood Ross at MET:
WASHINGTON -- The terrorists who perpetrated the 2001 anthrax attack on Congress likely were US government scientists at the army's Ft. Detrick, MD., bioterrorism lab having access to "moonsuits" that enabled them to safely process and manufacture super-weapons-grade anthrax, an eminent authority on the subject says.

Although only a "handful" of scientists had the ability to perpetrate the crime, the culprit among them may never be identified as the FBI ordered the destruction of the anthrax culture collection at Ames, IA., from which the Ft. Detrick lab got its pathogens, the authority said.

This action makes it impossible "to pin-point precisely where, when, and from whom these bio-agents had originated," said Dr. Francis A. Boyle of the University of Illinois at Champaign.

Boyle ... said destruction of the Ames anthrax "appears to be a cover-up orchestrated by the FBI."

If impartial scientists could have performed genetic reconstruction of the anthrax found in letters mailed to Senators Daschle (D-S.D.) and Patrick Leahy, (D -Vt.), "the trail of genetic evidence would have led directly back to a secret but officially-sponsored US government biowarfare program that was illegal and criminal" in violation of biological weapons conventions and US laws, Boyle said.
I was intrigued by all of this until Boyle gave his argument the "FOX News Kiss of Journalistic Doom" by asking loaded rhetorical questions, namely, "Could the real culprits behind the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, and the immediately following terrorist anthrax attacks upon Congress ultimately prove to be the same people?" and, "Could it truly be coincidental that two of the primary intended victims of the terrorist anthrax attacks - Senators Daschle and Leahy - were holding up the speedy passage of the pre-planned USA Patriot Act ... an act which provided the federal government with unprecedented powers in relation to US citizens and institutions?" I don't know, could they? Is he waiting for my response?

Boyle continues dramatically that because of its "bogus investigation," the "greatest political crime in the history of the United States of America since its founding on 4 July, 1776 - the anthrax attacks on Congress, which served not only to deliver a terrorist threat on its members, but actually to close it down for a period - may remain officially unresolved forever."

Which allows yarn-spinners of all stripes, persuasions, motives and chemical imbalances to wax conspiratorial till the end of time. I'd throw in my own theory, but I'm having trouble making a firm connection between shadowy bioterror agents and Carrot Top, who must be stopped before he strikes again.

TAXPAYER DOLLARS go to CIA guys to write blather discrediting legitimate investigations into their endless criminal shenanigans. Secret budget, secret operations, OUT OF CONTROL.

Anthrax scare in Congress got its desired effect for GWBush: they voted for his Iraq war.

Bush "gov't" has given America CORRUPTION, DEATH & DEBT.
IMPEACH BUSH now.
He's asking for it.

How about another rhetorical question? Like how come this government has only half-heartedly investigated the worst terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11?

Most of your gripes about Dr. Francis Boyle are simply idiocy and innuendo on your part. At this point in time, to not connect the dots and include the antrax 'attacks' as simply one more example of a false flag is naivete in its essense.. It's pretty obvious now to many folk the degree to which we are manipulated.

Clearly you are not a great student of history generally and the history of verified false flag ops more specifically.

And, yeh, 9/11 was a grand false flag, eh what? Got the neocons and corporate elite precisely what they had stated they needed. Militarism, authoritarianism, more corporatism, war for peaking energy resources, the steps towards global hegemony.... and the list goes on and on and on.

Get a clue.

You are passionate, Welser. But you do not persuade.

Your irrefutable proof is? You better not answer with yet another rhetorical question or "dots to connect," because you're liable to find a false flagpole stuffed up your arse.

That the good doctor has to shill to a Moon-owned paper says a lot about his "theory," interesting as it is.

This fits with the reports from former FBI agents who say that the culture at that agency can be summed up with this motto: "The FBI first."
